You know by now that I like medical office gizmos that are inexpensive and make a substantial difference in the quality of care I provide patients. Such is the case with the CareFull Catch System. Producing a urine specimen for urinalysis and urine culture is a messy procedure for women and children. Why not improve the situation for patients by providing a $1 disposable plastic wand that let’s patients comfortably hold a urine collecting cup a distance from the perineum and collect an adequate specimen without making a mess. This is to say without peeing on oneself which is never a good situation.
It also provides food for thought as to what other courtesies once can provide patients that would make a difference . I’ve previously discussed the Buzzy4Shots device to reduce the pain associated with needle sticks. Other gizmos that improve medical practice that come quickly to mind are the Cellscope Oto which lets you share observations of the ear canal and tympanic membrane easily and quickly with patients. The Littman 3200 lets you record heart and lung sounds to let you share observations with patients and parents.
