Thinklabs One Digital Stethoscope
I’ve been using digital stethoscopes for years. While I don’t have a particular favorite, I am a big fan of the Thinklabs One digital stethoscope because it facilitates excellent auscultation and does away with the iconic image of what the stethoscope looks like. You don’t put in around your neck – you put it in your pocket. It holds a charge with frequent use for about 2 weeks. You can preset your favorite listening frequencies based on your own experience and hearing needs. It turns itself off after use, and as it can amplify sounds 100X – it enables you to hear heart sounds and lungs sound with a clarity you have got to hear to believe.
It does take some time to get use to- you need to hold it steady to reduce or eliminate artefactual sounds resulting from movement of the device against the chest. I find that the Thinklabs One enables me to hear subtle pneumonias I could not hear with a non-digital device, and as a consequence I now order fewer xrays.
The Thinklabs One can be connected to headphone and earphones of your choosing. They come with a very good set of earphones, by the way.
Additionally, you can connect them to a Bluetooth transmitter and have a completely wireless setup when used with a Bluetooth receiver attached to a wired earphone system or connect directly to a Bluetooth earphone or headphone system. Incredible.
Lastly you can record your auscultation via your mobile device via the Thinklink application. You can share these recording with specialists or use them for teaching purposes.
The Thinklabs One sells for $500, and the Bluetooth transmitter and receiver pair sells for $99.
